We're passionate about helping clinicians improve patient care. Whether in primary, community, mental health or secondary settings, our aim is to provide every healthcare professional with the patient information they need to deliver the best quality, most efficient service.
EMIS clinical systems are already used by over 5,000 healthcare organisations across the UK, from GP practices and out-of-hours services, to community care and sexual health services. By using the same system, everyone can access the same information about their patients - no matter where they are treated - making the prospect of integrated care a reality.
With over 25 years' experience of working with the NHS, we're entrusted with over 40 million patient records. We also have one of the largest support and training teams, with more than 350 staff supporting our customers.
How we started
EMIS began in the 1980s in a rural practice in Egton near Whitby in North Yorkshire.
Dr Peter Sowerby and Dr David Stables wrote the software with the founding principle that the systems used by GP surgeries should improve patient care, and the idea of EMIS ‘written by doctors, for doctors’ was born.
Where we are now
To this day, from knowledge support to interoperability, clinical research projects and free online services for patients, we put patient care at the heart of everything we do.
