SignTranslate is a web based translation service for healthcare professionals and Deaf patients whose first language is British Sign Language (BSL). It is accessible from all EMIS systems straight from the desk top. Clinicians access remote BSL interpreters from their computers via a simple webcam.
SignHealth – the healthcare charity for Deaf people, developed SignTranslate and offers a free webcam to surgeries wishing to use the service. Endorsed by DH, it is a cost efficient solution for providing communication support for short notice, unsupported consultations.
