The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) is a self-administered questionnaire that measures depression and generalised anxiety in and outside hospital and community settings.
Consisting of 14 questions, seven for anxiety and seven for depression, HADS can detect the presence and severity of mild degrees of mood disorder, anxiety and depression. It gives clinically meaningful results as a psychological screening tool and it is also very quick to administer as questions can be answered within 2 - 5 minutes.
A new electronic version of HADS mirrors the paper-based equivalent and allows practitioners to assess both individual and group clients quickly and efficiently online.
