EMIS Web - the future of integrated care

EMIS Web will work to everyone's advantage. Patients will get properly integrated care from their primary care team.

EMIS Web - the future of integrated care

EMIS Web is the next generation healthcare system from EMIS. The software will provide GPs and community healthcare teams with a common clinical record, to facilitate the sharing of patient data between primary healthcare professionals.

The system incorporates both community and GP functionality, which will be determined by user log on. The system will recognise what role the user has, and will present the appropriate functionality. For example, GPs will have access to all of the high quality GP software that users have come to expect from EMIS, whereas district nurses will be presented with a tailored district nursing system, complete with appropriate templates, screenprompts and terminology.

EMIS Web is designed specifically for large, multi-disciplinary healthcare organisations working across multiple locations, and can be accessed anywhere there is an internet connection.

Key

Blue blockPatient data recorded by GPs will be held in the common clinical record in EMIS Web, no matter which EMIS system they use.

Green blockCommunity healthcare professionals will be able to access the data recorded by GPs, and input their own patient data to build up the common clinical record. Out of hours staff will also be able to access the shared patient record at any time of the day or night. GPs will be able to view the data added to the record by either community or out of hours staff.

Yellow blockEMIS Web is a fully interoperable system, designed to meet the requirements of Connecting for Health (CfH) and exchange data securely with the Spine. This will also facilitate EMIS initiatives and services for patients, such as online appointment booking with EMIS Access or integration with third party applications such as ECG machines.

Using EMIS Web - how you can easily upgrade

EMIS has designed a method for you to gradually upgrade to EMIS Web - without losing your existing LV or PCS system.

It's all about data streaming - replicating your patient data in EMIS Web from your LV or PCS system.

Figure 2, live data streaming

Once your data is in both systems, you can run them concurrently and start to use the new features in EMIS Web, including:

  • Sophisticated data filtering
  • Practice based commissioning
  • Common clinical record with community healthcare

This will give practices time to get used to EMIS Web at their own pace, upgrading as it's convenient.

Fast and secure data transfer

EMIS to EMIS data streaming minimises the risk of data loss, which can occur during third party data transfers where the existing system and new system record data in different ways. Our system allows practices to move forward, without using the kind of rip and replace method that usually results in time delays and system down time.

Data streaming is a thoroughly secure process, which protects the confidentiality of your patient data to the same level as it is protected by LV and PCS.

Implementation

The GP functionality in EMIS Web has commenced roll out to the first 1,000 practices. Three PCTs are currently trialling EMIS Web with community staff.

More information on EMIS Web will be published on EMIS-online, as well as in EMIS publications such as EMIS in Practice.

Users' experience of EMIS Web

A secure, shared record that GPs, health visitors and other community staff can access means there is less chance of a problem or important information getting missed.

EMIS Web currently allows a one-way flow of information from GPs to health visitors, district nurses and school nurses. Ultimately this flow will be two-way and will also include other disciplines: foot health, speech and language, occupational health, the community drugs team and the out-of-hours service.
