EMIS and PAERS have teamed up to introduce HIP - a Health Information Portal for patients. The portal provides a safe and controlled environment for patients to view their medical records, browse extensive health information and complete practice questionnaires.

HIP is available now to all practices using EMIS LV and PCS clinical systems

The practice-based kiosk provides patients with greater access to their medical history and the opportunity to learn more about conditions, treatments and medication - free of charge whilst they wait for their appointment.

Research has shown that patients feel having access to their medical records improves trust, understanding of their illness and the doctor-patient relationship. Viewing the contents of the medical record enables a patient to ensure its accuracy and also provides the opportunity to give informed consent for disclosure.

HIP kiosks are also available with an integrated printer to allow patients to print and take away information. A coin operated mechanism provides practices with the option to charge a small fee to cover printing costs.

Secure access and patient confidentiality

Unique fingerprint authentication offers a secure, reliable and accurate method for patient identification – with no swipe card or password to be remembered. Polarised screen filters ensure privacy, as only the patient sat directly in front of the kiosk can view the information shown on-screen.

Three great software options

Practices can choose to offer any combination of the following software options:

Medical record viewer:

Patients can view the contents of their own medical record – without involvement from practice staff. Touch screen operation and on-screen instructions allow easy navigation of a medical record summary, including consultations, test results, medications and vaccinations, and attachments.

Online health information:

Free access to a comprehensive directory of online health information. HIP contains over 3,000 Patient Information Leaflets (PILS), online resources such as self diagnosis engines, promotional health literature such as advice on diet and exercise, plus links to external health websites.

QOF questionnaires:

Using HIP, running and managing practice questionnaires is simple. It's fast and easy for patients to complete the questionnaire within the surgery, and results are instantly entered into a data file on the kiosk – without any re-keying of information or results.

Results are easily exported for analysis, which can help your practice to earn up to 70 nGMS points.
